The acquisition of Health Central, one of Central Florida's last independent hospitals, by Orlando Health, a multi-hospital system, is a done deal. The 171-bed Ocoee hospital became the eighth hospital in the Orlando Health system at the stroke of midnight Sunday. The $181.3 million sale had been in the works since February 2011. The acquisition creates a wholly owned subsidiary named Orlando Health Central, although the hospital will continue to operate under the Health Central name. Proceeds from the sale will be paid to the West Orange Healthcare District—which owned the independent hospital—over the next 15 years.
