The Mount Sinai Medical Center on Manhattan's Upper East Side and Continuum Health Partners announced Thursday that their boards of trustees have reached a tentative agreement on a possible merger. The announcement comes less than nine months after Continuum reached a similar merger agreement with NYU Langone Medical Center. The NYU-Continuum discussions fell apart just two weeks later, however, when Mount Sinai suddenly stepped in and made Continuum a counteroffer; NYU suspended merger discussions, suggesting that Continuum had jilted it after eight months of "good faith" negotiations.
