Allina Health has closed down the seventh floor of United Hospital, citing the move as an example of how it will trim $100 million in expenses over the next 18 months. The Minneapolis-based health system previously treated epilepsy patients on that floor of the St. Paul hospital. Those patients will move to the fourth floor, where the hospital treats other neurology patients, spokesman David Kanihan said. "It doesn't make sense to have entire floor of operations if we can handle overflow another way," he said. Asked whether the floor closing was permanent, Kanihan said, "permanent is a long time," but the hospital doesn't have a use for it at the moment.
