More hospital beds are staying empty at area hospitals. Here’s why.

An empty hospital bed is becoming more common in the Dayton area due to a variety of factors, including changes that result in more people recovering at home. Hospitals in a region that includes the Dayton and Cincinnati areas and northern Kentucky had 1.6 million inpatient hospital days in 2016 — down from 1.7 million in 2015.
