Connecticut is eligible for about $50 million in federal funds to provide health insurance to uninsured residents who have pre-existing conditions. The funding is part of a short-term, $5 billion national program under healthcare reform legislation called the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The funding pays for a "temporary high-risk pool" of patients who otherwise can't get coverage because of pre-existing medical problems, the Hartford Courant reports.
