Nurses at two large Manhattan hospitals have reached a settlement that appears to avert the possibility of a strike and resolves major disagreements over health benefits, hospital and union officials said on Tuesday. The tentative contract agreement would require the 1,300 registered nurses at St. Luke's and Roosevelt hospitals to pay what Stanley Brezenoff, chief executive of their parent company, called "modest premiums" for their health benefits.
