Decatur Memorial Hospital plans to merge with Springfield-based Memorial Health System on Oct. 1 as part of an affiliation that leaders of both not-for-profit organizations said will make both more efficient in the nation’s turbulent health-care industry and preserve specialty care in the Macon County seat.
