Many hospitals are moving toward electronic medical records and eliminating paper altogether, but what happens when there is a power outage? Citizens Memorial Healthcare, a 74-bed hospital in Bolivar, MO, was just about to convert to a paperless healthcare information system when it realized that it didn't have an answer to that question. So Denni McColm, Citizen's chief information officer, quickly implemented a scripting tool from Boston Software Systems to generate paper records in the event of a system failure--which has already happened.
