Doctors seek partner to keep a Brooklyn hospital open

Doctors from an embattled Brooklyn hospital are making a last-minute bid to take it over with the help of a white knight, a professional management company that they say would have the expertise to turn it around. The doctors, known as Concerned Physicians of LICH, for Long Island College Hospital, did not identify the prospective company, but they said on Thursday that a number of companies were interested and that it would most likely be one experienced in turning around hospitals and recognized by the State Health Department. The state would have to approve the operator, which would be taking over from SUNY Downstate Medical Center, which now runs the hospital. The doctors would face serious obstacles, not the least of which would be getting commitments from a partner who might or might not see them as an asset in running the hospital, in Cobble Hill.
