Embattled University Hospital’s CEO resigns amid outbreak, sharp criticism

The CEO at University Hospital in Newark resigned Thursday, amid calls for his ouster from the mayor and the scrutiny of the state Health Department investigating an outbreak that may have claimed the lives of three infants in the neonatal intensive care unit. John N. Kastanis joined the state’s only public hospital in March 2016, and will leave it Dec. 14, according to an announcement.
