While their patients are scrimping on care in tough economic times, the healthcare industry in South Florida is suffering. "It's a serious situation," Octavio "Tony" Prieto, a Plantation doctor who is head of the Broward County Medical Association, told the Miami Herald. "It's very hard to do our work, particularly in primary care, in this environment," especially when the patients who do come in don't follow his advice about getting prescriptions filled.
