Kaiser staffers protest layoffs of 530 workers

Workers at three Kaiser Permanente hospitals in the Inland area will picket the facilities later this week and next to protest the upcoming layoffs of more than 500 medical professionals across Southern California. Union leaders say they were informed by the medical provider several weeks ago that 530 positions will be eliminated. The layoffs could include more than 150 nurses and other workers at Kaiser Permanente hospitals in Riverside, Fontana and Ontario, union officials said. Union members will get the word out at all-day informational picket lines Thursday, Dec. 13, at Kaiser?s Riverside hospital, Friday, Dec. 14, in Ontario and Tuesday, Dec. 18, in Fontana, leaders said. The protests began Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the South Bay Medical Center in Harbor City.
