Med school scholarship program designed to combat physician shortage

Businesses are joining with physicians to back a new scholarship program aimed at getting local students to stay in Western New York for medical school, and more importantly, to remain here to practice. The Western New York Medical Scholarship Fund comes in response to a growing shortage of physicians in the region, which is experiencing greater shortages than the rest of the state. Dr. John Bodkin III, a family physician with Highgate Medical Group in Buffalo, said he's finding it harder and harder to find specialists for his patients, and the issues is only getting worse as others near retirement age.
