Norton-Kosair suit stirs debate on execs' pay

He has been paid more than the CEOs of some of America's most prestigious hospitals, including the Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic and Massachusetts General —all of which have revenues that dwarf his own company's. From 2011 to 2013, the three most recent years available, tax records show the chief executive of Norton Healthcare, Stephen A. Williams, received total compensation that averaged $3.2 million a year. The Courier-Journal decided to examine executive compensation at the nonprofit hospital company after Kosair Charities claimed in a lawsuit that Norton has used contributions from Kosair to "line the pockets" of its executives and pay them exorbitant sums.
