More than four years after the initial groundbreaking ceremony, UNC Hospitals' 256,000-square-foot healthcare facility is just several weeks from opening. The campus will open its emergency department on July 6, followed by outpatient surgery on Aug. 3 and inpatient services on Aug. 31. The new hospital is expected to cost slightly less than the $227 million projected in the Certificate of Need plan approved by state regulators, and will employ about 450 people. The 68 inpatient-bed facility, at 460 Waterstone Drive, will offer a full range of imaging and laboratory services, in addition to surgery, ophthalmology, gynecology, urology, dermatology and women's care and oncology.
