UW-Madison doctors have approved a plan to merge UW Medical Foundation and UW Hospital, which is expected to go before the UW Board of Regents later this week. Faculty of the medical foundation, the university's 1,300-member doctor group, approved the merger Monday after voting over the past two weeks. The measure passed 574 to 125, with 82 percent of voters saying yes. The plan would integrate the medical foundation and 592-bed UW Hospital into a single organization. Currently, they are separate entities under the umbrella of UW Health, which also includes UW School of Medicine and Public Health and Unity, a health insurance company.
