Recent Survey Report Shows 80% of Healthcare Technology Providers Have Suffered a Cyberattack

recent survey conducted by Irdeto and Censuswide revealed that 80% of healthcare technology providers have suffered a cyberattack over the past five years.

The report, published on January 15 by Irdeto (a digital security company based in the Netherlands) , also indicated that 68.5% of healthcare technology providers suffered multiple cyberattacks during that timeframe. The respondents to the survey were senior decision-makers working at a range of business from medical device manufacturers to digital and mobile health companies and telemedicine providers, according to the survey report.

The new research is in line with previous reports published by Irdeto. A 2020 report from Irdeto found that only 16% of Internet of things (IoT) devices used or manufactured by healthcare organizations did not experience a cyberattack in 2018 and 2019.

The latest survey report also provided the following insights:

  • 15% of healthcare technology providers admit to having no knowledge or awareness of the new cybersecurity regulations, such as the U.S. FDA pre-market guidelines
  • 18% of respondents believe their organization's medical device cybersecurity to be strong
  • 60% of respondents feel their organization needs to implement a more robust cybersecurity strategy to prevent or protect themselves from cyberthreats, and just under half of respondents believe they need to partner with a third-party cybersecurity company to do so
  • 65% of healthcare technology providers believe they need to allocate additional budget to cybersecurity concerns to protect themselves from threats
  • 78% of respondents believe that device inventory management is a problem in their organizations
