Only two of these nine received an 'F' in the previous iteration of Leapfrog's scores.

Of the more than 2,600 acute care hospitals scored in The Leapfrog Group's spring 2019 hospital safety grades, there were just nine that received an "F," placing them in the bottom 1% of hospitals scored.

Less than one-third (32%) of hospitals secured an "A" grade. More than a quarter (26%) earned a "B." Leapfrog gave a "C" to another 36% and a "D" to 6% of hospitals.

This list is significantly shorter than the 17 hospitals that earned "F" grades in Leapfrog's fall 2018 announcement. Only two of these nine received an "F" last fall: 

1. National Park Medical Center in Hot Springs, Arkansas
    
2. Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys, California
    
3. Lompoc Valley Medical Center in Lompoc, California
    
4. Methodist Hospital of Henderson in Henderson, Kentucky
    
5. Hurley Medical Center in Flint, Michigan
    
6. Rehoboth McKinley Christian Health Services in Gallup, New Mexico (included in last fall's "F" list)
    
7. St. John's Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway, New York (included in last fall's "F" list)
    
8. UPMC Chautauqua WCA in Jamestown, New York
    
9. United Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
    

Patients admitted to a "D" or "F" hospital face nearly double the risk as those admitted to an "A" hospital, the Leapfrog group said.
