This year is the first time two awards have been consolidated into a single list that includes the top 250, 100, and 50 hospitals.
Healthgrades released its annual list Tuesday of "America's Best Hospitals," using clinical outcomes to identify the top 5% of hospitals nationwide.
In years past, Healthgrades released two separate awards, one for the top 250 hospitals in clinical excellence and the other for the the top 50 and 100 hospitals. But this year is the first time the two awards have been consolidated into a single list.
"Consumers have many options for care, so when hospitals prove their long-term commitment to the patient and to achieving high-quality clinical outcomes, it sets their system apart in a sea of choices," Healthgrades Chief Medical Officer Brad Bowman said in a statement.

HealthLeaders launches roundtable to convene innovators plus technology and clinical leaders
Healthcare innovation continues at a record pace as venture capital firms pour investment into the sector. At the same time, hospitals and health systems are counting on innovation to connect them to new customers and protect against emerging market competitors. It is at this intersection of innovation and healthcare delivery that HealthLeaders is launching its newest leadership program.
Building on the success of the HealthLeaders Exchange program and the 2018 NEXT Hospital Innovation conference in Dallas, HealthLeaders is launching the HealthLeaders Innovation Exchange July 17‒19 at the Ojai Valley Inn in Ojai, California. This forum will gather leading chief innovation officers and chief transformation officers with CIOs, CMIOs, and clinical leaders to better define ways that innovation can add value.
"Healthcare innovators have this massive potential energy that is waiting to be released. Only consumers and providers can flip that switch,” says HealthLeaders Editor and Leadership Programs Director Jim Molpus. "Too often we see these two dynamic groups circling each other without sitting down to real dialogue. We are excited to bring our proven record of convening healthcare leaders to this dialogue."
The format of the Exchange program is built on roundtable discussion and open idea exchange. Discussions will be designed to help participants:
Assess which innovations are best for your hospital
Organize the team that will make the innovation work
Install only those innovations with maximum clinical value
Measure the return on investment to your health system, your community, and the bottom line
Attendance is limited to 40 participants and much of the time will be spent in small roundtable discussions led by a HealthLeaders editor. Participants decide in advance what topics should be featured.
"It’s been a privilege to interview, meet, and convene great healthcare innovators in our work at HealthLeaders," says Molpus. For qualified candidates, this limited, invitation-only event requires no registration fees or travel expenses. For details on qualifications and a sample agenda, please view the event program description.
