Maryland hospitals don't know how they'll cover costs of new regulations

Now that Maryland's new system for regulating hospitals is moving forward, the state's rate-setting agency and hospitals need to figure out how to pay for the changes. Until early January, the Health Services Cost Review Commission was focused on negotiating a massive deal with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and establishing the basic framework of the new system. Now the HSCRC, which is in charge of rolling out the new hospital payment model, is investigating ways for hospitals to pay for the IT, staff and new partnerships they will need under the new model.
