Hospitals will get a little less money to cover uninsured patients in fiscal 2015. Maryland's Health Services Cost Review Commission on Wednesday approved an update to its uncompensated care policy that will reduce the amount of money hospitals receive to cover health costs of patients who cannot or do not pay. Hospitals will receive about $958 million in fiscal 2015, down from just more than $1 billion in fiscal 2014. Money to pay for uncompensated care is included in hospital rates and the HSCRC determines how much to include. The agency updated its policy because many patients who were uninsured will be covered by Medicaid.
