Shands Health Care System has agreed to pay $3.25 million to settle the second part of a whistle-blower case that claimed that six of Shands Florida hospitals over billed the government, which resulted in overpayments from Medicaid, Medicare and TriCare, those close to the case said Thursday. Last August, Shands agreed to pay $26 million to settle additional claims by the same whistle blower. Those claims related to improper patient admissions. At the time, Shands officials made clear the settlement represented "no admission of liability." The whistleblower initially filed the case in 2008, in Middle District Court in Florida.
