Hartford Courant, June 4, 2010

A bogus company that collected premiums in exchange for promises to provide discounts on its customers' medical bills has been liquidated by a Tennessee court, leaving some Connecticut residents with claims as high as $30,000. The company operated under the name American Trade Association, Inc., along with American Trade Association LLC, Smart Data Solutions LLC, and Serve America Assurance. The companies collected premiums, but left some customers with unpaid health bills that were supposed to be covered, according to court documents and the Connecticut Insurance Department.
