Obama's base joins the fray over health vote

Liberal groups and some labor unions are pressuring wavering Democrats to get behind President Barack Obama's healthcare legislation, despite their misgivings about the package now awaiting a House vote, the Wall Street Journal reports. The mobilization of key constituents of Obama's base comes amid lobbying by groups for and against the legislation. Republican leaders in Congress used the union and activist onslaught to portray the final push on healthcare as bullying lawmakers to vote against the will of their constituents, the Journal reports.
