I recently had the pleasure of opening and moderating the first day of the 2014 Colorado Health Symposium, which had as its theme "Transforming Health: The Power of Engagement." I found thinking about engagement, well, engaging, and in this post I summarize the keynote presentation I gave at the conference. Engagement has many meanings, including some negative ones (such as "a hostile encounter between military forces"). I focused on engagement as "emotional involvement or commitment" and described five engagements that will define the future of health. Engaging the whole patient. The future of health will be defined by the health care system's ability to engage the whole patient.
