Surgeon's $2.8 million tops in pay at OH's nonprofit hospitals

It was an unlikely place for a New York City native's surgical career to take root and make him the highest compensated practicing physician employed by a nonprofit or public hospital in Ohio. But after completing his orthopedic surgery fellowship 14 years ago, Dr. Brian Cohen found plenty of opportunity for a career he's passionate about in this town of 22,000 on the edge of Appalachia. It wasn't love at first sight, Cohen admitted. But the physician practice that had handled orthopedic procedures for Adena Health System had recently pulled out, and its hospital employed no orthopedic surgeons.
