Minneapolis-St. Paul nurses voted overwhelmingly to authorize a one-day strike at 14 hospitals, raising the stakes for both sides in the struggle to reach a new contract, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. More than 9,000 of the 12,000 nurses cast ballots and more than 90% voted to reject pension and labor proposals from the hospitals, union leaders reported. Voting "no" to the hospital proposals is the equivalent of voting to authorize a strike, which could occur as early as June 1.
