Docs sue FL Gov. Scott over gun gag law

A coalition of Florida doctors aided by a national gun-control group has filed a lawsuit to block a law Gov. Rick Scott signed last week that restricts physicians' ability to ask patients about guns in their homes. The new law requires that doctors, emergency medical personnel and other healthcare providers refrain from asking about gun ownership unless they "in good faith [believe] that this information is relevant to the patient's medical care or safety, or the safety of others." In addition, they cannot enter the response into a database. Attorneys with the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence and two other law firms are seeking to block enforcement of the law on behalf of three South Florida doctors as well as the Florida chapters of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Academy of Family Physicians and the American College of Physicians.
