Doctors sue to block Florida's pill bill

Florida doctors who run a group of seven pain-management clinics have filed suit to block from going into effect Oct. 1 a new state law regulating their industry.

The Florida Legislature approved the measure to guard against unscrupulous pain clinics prescribing drugs such as Oxycodone to people who don’t have the medical conditions that would require such drugs. Backers of the bill say such clinics are part of an illegal drug pipeline that provides the prescriptions to people who they know don’t need them. The patients then fill the prescriptions and either resell the pills or use the drugs themselves.
