Parkland's president and chief executive, Dr. Ron Anderson, has a personal perspective on what medical students should be allowed to do with patients.
"When I was a fourth-year medical student, I did 17 amputations in a state hospital," he told The Dallas Morning News.
An orthopedic surgeon "directed me all the way through" and would have taken over "if I had hesitated in any way," Anderson said. "The actual cutting of the limb, the guillotine, it's seconds."
