A former employee at Miami-based Jackson Memorial Hospital, Michael R. Clarke, has been charged with five felonies and 13 misdemeanors for depositing patients' checks worth $7,781.25 into his personal bank account. The Miami-Dade County Office of the Inspector General announced that the case involved checks written during a yearlong period. The investigation began last fall when a couple asked Jackson why a payment of $1,298.50 had not been credited to their account. According to an affidavit, the patient at the Batchelor Urology Center said she first made out a check to JMH, for Jackson Memorial Hospital, but was told by Clarke to tear it up and write another, payable to "Cash-JMH."
