IL hospital stabbing draws immediate jeopardy threat from feds

The federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, or CMS, notified Loretto in a June 27 letter that the incident revealed safety breaches "so serious they constitute an immediate jeopardy to patient health and safety" and said the hospital could face termination from the programs unless the problems were remedied quickly. Staff at Loretto Hospital failed to properly monitor the alleged attacker despite his history of violence, a state inspection report said.
