Illinois hospitals address high infection rates

Nine hospitals are marked with red arrows signifying unusually high infection rates in the new edition of the Illinois Hospital Report Card and Consumer Guide to Health Care. The state uses infection ratios to track performance; these are calculated by dividing the number of infections that occurred in a year by the number that might be expected to occur in light of national data. The Chicago Tribune asked each of the nine hospitals with high infection rates about what was going on and what staff are doing to address infections.
