In Derby, speculation is swirling that that Rock Regional Hospital could soon be closing its doors. While there are multiple rumors going around about the hospital's future, Rock Regional lab technician Barry Clayton said he and other employees feel left in the dark about the hospital’s future. Some said they’ve heard that the facility could close as soon as next week. 'From my perspective we don’t know what's going on here,' Clayton said. 'We're just being told they're trying to negotiate something to keep this hospital open but we have no specifics.'
At Thursday's final State Health Planning Board hearing on RWJ Barnabas Health's plan to close Monmouth Medical Center (MMC) hospital in Long Branch, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) delivered testimony in opposition to RWJ Barnabas's plan to close one of New Jersey's best hospitals. "Simply put, RWJ Barnabas' plan to close the Long Branch hospital puts profits over people. Period. They are abandoning a poorer, more diverse city for a significantly wealthier, less diverse suburb,” Pallone said. Pallone has opposed the disastrous plan from day one, arguing that RWJ Barnabas is abandoning a lower-income area to build a concierge hospital in Tinton Falls. For months, he has demanded fair hearings and an opportunity for community members to be heard after two chaotic and inaccessible hearings: one announced illegally, the other held in a cramped off-site venue in Eatontown where opponents were left outside in the freezing cold while RWJBarnabas employees filled the seats. Today's is the final public hearing before RWJ Barnabas's plan is approved by state officials.
The future of Ogdensburg’s hospital is in jeopardy and the facility will not be able to make payroll next week, according to North Star Alliance CEO Richard Duvall. Duvall said that while funding had been indicated as available, North Star Alliance has not received support at the required level. North Star Health Alliance is now facing a fiscal cliff, and several North Country lawmakers are calling for a federal investigation. They allege the New York State Department of Health has failed to support—or worse, obstructed—the organization’s restructuring efforts.
Monument Health could lose $40 million a year in federal revenue, be forced to reduce some medical services and have to cut back on construction efforts as a result of plans by Sanford Health to build a competing medical campus, Monument's CEO said in an interview. Right now, Monument operates the only hospital in Rapid City and is the major provider of primary, emergency and specialty medical care in western South Dakota. But for the first time, it would have direct competition for many of those services — and their related revenues — due to Sanford Health's $500 million expansion plans.

Hundreds of Portland healthcare jobs will be cut when a critical care facility ceases operations next year. Vibra Specialty Hospital issued a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification on Monday, announcing that 310 employees will be permanently laid off on or around Monday, Feb. 1, 2026. The hospital on 10300 NE Hancock St. is closing as a result of "ongoing financial challenges that have made it unsustainable to continue operations," Vibra CEO Michael Kerr wrote. Clinical assistants, respiratory therapists and maintenance technicians are among the staff members who will be impacted by the layoffs. Registered nurses, certified nursing assistants and licensed practical nurses are among the roles seeing the largest job cuts, with 95 registered nurses making up the largest group.
