The Washington State Hospital Association says if nothing changes that more than half of the state's hospitals could run out of cash by the end of 2023.
HCA Healthcare Inc (HCA.N) on Friday maintained its full-year profit forecast, even as weak third-quarter revenue and concerns about macroeconomic pressures dragged its shares nearly 9% lower. Chief Executive Officer Samuel Hazen, in an investor conference call, also refrained from giving an early outlook for 2023 as the management typically does, citing "unprecedented inflationary and macroeconomic pressures."
Experts project more than 450,000 uninsured Georgians would gain coverage if Medicaid were broadened. Many do not usually qualify for subsidies to buy individual policies, leaving them in what experts call the "coverage gap."
This strike is only the latest in a series of issues with Windham Hospital, however. It’s run by Hartford HealthCare, which wants to permanently close the maternity ward there. That move has been blocked by the state and protested by healthcare advocates from around the state.
A perfect storm fueled by understaffing and aging hospital buildings has forced the state of Michigan to temporarily close more than 70 long-term psychiatric beds at three of its behavioral facilities. The bed closures, which began earlier this year, follow a series of high-profile violent incidents involving men and women who struggled to find treatment for their mental illnesses.
