The case against three former hospital executives who allegedly stole more than $13 million from hospital districts in Tulare and Lone Pine, Calif. will not begin until the spring. Former Healthcare Conglomerate Associates (HCCA) CEO Yorai “Benny” Benzeevi, CFO Alan Germany and counsel Bruce Greene were schedule to appear in court on Feb. 17 for demurrer hearings, effectively a motion to dismiss the case, but those hearings where postponed to April 26.
A father and son from California who defrauded Affordable Care Act programs in 12 states, including Connecticut, were sentenced Tuesday in a case believed to be the "first of its kind," according to federal officials. Judge Aliv W. Thompson in Hartford sentenced 63-year-old Jeffrey White to 36 months in prison and 35-year-old Nicholas White to 13 months in prison.
As part of the omnibus Federal appropriations bill enacted into law on December 27, 2020, Congress established new reporting requirements for states that make Medicaid supplemental payments. The new requirements follow on the heels of the withdrawal of a controversial proposed rule, which would have made more sweeping changes to Medicaid supplemental payments. As a result of the new law, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will be developing a new reporting system for supplemental payments by October 1, 2021.
Oscar Health Inc., the health insurance startup co-founded by Josh Kushner, is seeking as much as $1 billion in its U.S. initial public offering. The New York-based company and its existing shareholders are offering 31 million class A shares at $32 to $34 apiece, according to a Monday filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
One of Maine’s top-performing rural hospitals would take over one of its worst-performing ones in a Washington County merger that may leave millions of dollars in debt unpaid to retain medical care in Calais. Many of the 1,900 banks, government agencies, businesses and others to which Calais Regional Hospital owes about $25 million are unlikely to recoup much after the hospital’s proposed acquisition by its Machias counterpart. But if it goes through, the city of Calais would retain a hospital run by an organization that has operated in the black in recent years and with substantially less overhead.
