Mercy has begun construction on a 75-bed hospital in Wentzville that will soon serve the region's booming west suburbs. A relatively new and critical way we can start addressing these challenges is through the use of artificial intelligence in health care. AI has the potential to improve efficiency, enhance patient care and help bridge the gaps in our health care system. Currently being developed by Assoc. Prof. Huanyu "Larry" Cheng and colleagues at Pennsylvania State University, the flexible, stretchable device incorporates sensors that measure biaxial mechanical strain, body temperature, sweat-induced humidity, and blood oxygen levels. These sensors are stacked like pancakes, separated by thin sheets of different materials that keep their signals and measurement methods from interfering with one another.
