El Paso Children's Hospital helps UMC with sterilization services

El Paso Children's Hospital is providing some sterilization services to University Medical Center of El Paso after UMC stopped nonemergency surgeries because its sterile processing unit failed to meet accreditation standards. Children's Hospital said Monday it began providing some sterilization services to neighboring UMC on Sunday evening. The hospitals are in the middle of a multimillion-dollar dispute regarding rent and other services. On Thursday, UMC was issued a notice of a preliminary denial of accreditation after the Joint Commission found that certifications, documentation and processes did not meet requirements.
