Experts predict this year’s H3N2 Subclade K strain — aka 'Super Flu' — match or surpass last year's flu strain, which was considered severe. That's because so far, the CDC estimates there have been at least 4,600,000 flu cases nationwide this season, 49,000 hospitalization and 1,900 deaths. That's essentially double where we were this time last year. In the week ending Dec. 13, data shows 10,456 new flu cases in clinical labs across the U.S. But that's just of people who were tested for the flu at clinical labs, meaning the real number is probably higher. Those factors have doctors, the CDC and state health departments on edge.
