MA-based Partners HealthCare's investment gains make drop in operating income bearable

Massachusetts-based Partners HealthCare has posted operating income of $33.3 million for the first quarter of its 2010 fiscal year, a decline of $25 million from the $58.7 million it reported for the same period in 2009. But the drop was more than offset by $83.8 million Partners earned in nonoperating income, mostly from investment gains in the three months ending Dec. 31. During the same period the previous year, Partners had a nonoperating loss of $244.1 million, the Boston Globe reports.
