Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse spent more than $1.3 million last year preparing to handle Ebola patients as one of Upstate New York's five designated Ebola Treatment Centers. Now the hospital is among those hoping that the federal government will reimburse their combined costs of more than $10 million preparing for an Ebola crisis that never arrived in Upstate New York. U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., said Thursday that he will ask the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to make sure all New York hospitals will have their expenses reimbursed from a $733 million federal emergency response fund.
