FirstLine's doctor-on-demand app is the Uber for healthcare

After growing up in a family of primary care doctors, Bryan O'Connell knew what it was like having a doctor on demand. He's expanding the experience to both California and Massachusetts in upcoming months, launching telemedicine and doctor-on-call service FirstLine in San Francisco today, and in Massachusetts by this summer. The company offers an app that connects patients and doctors. "We consider ourselves the easiest way to access primary health care on demand," O'Connell, the company's co-founder and CEO, said in a phone interview. The service — formed out of and headquartered at the University Of Massachusetts' Venture Development Center — allows users to sign up for $25 and pay $15 a month to connect by text message or video chat to a doctor.
