When Northern Light's Inland Hospital closes in a few weeks, Waterville will soon have only one emergency room and no inpatient beds. The hospital's closure, announced on March 13, has forced the city's leadership to contemplate adapting its EMS resources. An emergency call in Waterville has an average response time of ten minutes. However, after May 27th, when a patient needs inpatient care, ambulances must travel to Augusta or Skowhegan, which is at least an hour round trip.
