As anticipated or feared, depending on point of view, California Attorney General Kamala Harris late Friday approved the sale of six financially ailing Daughters of Charity Health System hospitals to Prime Healthcare Services. However, she made the decision with conditions Harris called "strong" and the hospital systems are likely to consider onerous, including a requirement that five of the six facilities stay open for at least ten years. Earlier, the seller said such conditions could potentially scuttle the deal. The Daughters of Charity transaction is the largest such hospital deal ever reviewed by the department, the Attorney General's office said.
