Georgia isn't doing its part to support policies and pass legislation to prevent and reduce cancer deaths, according to a new study by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN). The report uses a color-coded system to classify how well each state rates in each of nine categories relating to public policy. Green shows a state has adopted evidence-based policies and best practices, yellow shows moderate movement toward the benchmark and red shows where states are falling short. Georgia measured up in just one of the nine areas — pain policy. It was classified as yellow in medicaid coverage of tobacco cessation services and breast and cervical cancer early detection funding.
