Satellite emergency rooms come to South FL

No more sitting around the Emergency Room waiting to see a doctor. Hospitals in South Florida are starting to open stand-alone emergency centers in busy commercial areas. West Boca Medical Center opened one of the latest: the $7.5 million, 10,000-square-foot Coconut Creek Emergency Center just south of the Sawgrass Expressway. Last spring, Florida Medical Center started The Emergency Center in 13,626 square feet on the first floor of a new building just south of Interstate 595 in Davie. Both hospitals are run by the for-profit Tenet Healthcare Corp. Meanwhile, Westside Regional Medical Center in Plantation opened a 12,700-square-foot off-site emergency room on University Drive in Davie, near the campus of Nova Southeastern University.
