A second prospective buyer for Landmark Medical Center in Rhode Island has withdrawn, leaving only one bidder—the company opposed by the hospital employees' union. The departure of Prime Healthcare Services of California suggests that a fast-track process to find a buyer for the Woonsocket hospital may be falling apart. A schedule set in January called for a bidder to be chosen by March 28. The deadline was repeatedly extended, and still none of the bidders met the requirements of the Superior Court judge overseeing the process. Hospital spokesman Bill Fischer emphasized Wednesday that the remaining bidder, RegionalCare Hospital Partners of Tennessee, is a viable contender whose offer is still under consideration.
