Sturgis Hospital is looking to change its operating model Jan. 1 from a traditional facility to a rural emergency hospital. The hospital was saved from imminent closure earlier in the summer when the city commission mulled a small loan, as hospital officials waited to hear from the state if a larger financial lifeboat in the form of a grant would carry them through the end of the year.
