Hospitals to cancel elective procedures, discharge ASAP as nurse strike looms: sources

In preparation for a potential strike January 9, hospitals today will begin what they call "decanting" their facilities, hospital sources told NBC New York.

That means they will start canceling elective procedures, including some fairly significant procedures, and discharging patients as early as clinically possible in an effort to get the patient count down.
