Holy Cross Hospitals inform former patients of data breach

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Nearly 10,000 former patients of Holy Cross Hospital have received letters in the mail notifying them that their personal information may have been accessed by a former employee. According to hospital officials, they recently learned that an employee in the Privacy Office had inappropriately accessed thousands of patient records. The information included patient names, dates of birth, addresses and Social Security Numbers. As a precaution, the hospital sent out letters to all of the 9,900 patients whose demographic information was accessed (appropriately or potentially inappropriately) by this person from November 2011 and August 2013.
